MEMPHIS, Tenn. – No. 22 Virginia (9-2, 1-0 ACC) never led in a 77-54 loss to No. 23 Memphis (9-2) at FedExForum on Tuesday night (Dec. 19).

Virginia committed 18 turnovers on the night while shooting 39 percent from the field, including 21 percent from beyond the arc.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tigers had the hot hand coming out of the starting gate, opening up with a 13-1 advantage over the Hoos. Virginia cut the deficit with an 11-2 and 8-0 run to bring the game within one point [29-28]. Caleb Mills scored four points in the final minute of the half to give Memphis a 38-32 lead at the break. Jake Groves led the Cavaliers in the first half with nine points (4-for-4 FG).

Virginia was outscored 22-39 in the second half, shooting only 30 percent from the field and 10 percent from 3-point range. Five minutes into the second stanza, the Tigers pulled away after orchestrating an 18-2 run, taking a commanding 21 point lead [65-44].
