CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Gavin Cagle turned in an eighth-place finish on Tuesday (Jan. 2) to close his run at the Southern Scuffle presented by Compound Sportswear and hosted at McKenzie Arena by Chattanooga. He went 4-2 at the tournament overall.

Competing at 157 pounds, Cagle opened Tuesday’s competition with a 12-9 decision over Duke’s Logan Ferrero. He then dropped a major decision to Oklahoma’s John Wiley before being pinned by Chattanooga’s Austin Paradice in the seventh-place match.

Cagle opened the tournament on Monday against seventh-ranked Daniel Cardenas of Stanford and suffered a loss by pin to the top seed in the weight class before picking up a pair of hard-fought decisions in the wrestlebacks. He first defeated Nick Tattini of Duke before taking a 4-2 decision over Blake Saito of Brown.
