CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Junior Gretchen Walsh has been named the ACC Women’s Swimmer of the Week it was announced by the league office on Tuesday (Jan. 23) with the release of its weekly awards.

Walsh turned in a record-setting weekend for the Hoos as she helped the team to victories over No. 8 NC State and No. 20 North Carolina in a tri-meet at the Aquatic & Fitness Center on Grounds. She won two events in individual competition, placing first in the 50 Free with a time of 20.98 and the 100 Free with a time of 46.40.

Her time of 46.40 in the 100 free set an AFC Pool record and set a pool record for the 100 Back with her time of 48.77 in the opening leg of the 200 Free relay.

She also helped Virginia take first in the 200 Medley relay (1:35.98), the 200 Free relay (1:26.47), the 400 Free relay (3:13.04) and the 400 Medley relay (3:28.03). She turned in the fastest split in history for the 50 fly with a time of 21.50 in her leg of the relay. Her split of 20.19 in her leg of the 200 Free relay was also the fastest split in history for the 50 Free.
