Washington Named CSC Academic All-American
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia wide receiver Malik Washington was listed as a College Sports Communicators (CSC) First Team Academic All-American on Tuesday (Jan. 23). Washington is the first Cavalier since 2017 to earn Academic All-America honors.
Washington is the 11th student-athlete in program history and the sixth ever first-team selection. He is the first UVA wide receiver to land on the Academic All-America Team. Washington is one of five representatives from the Atlantic Coast Conference on this year’s Academic All-America Team.
In the classroom, Washington posted a 4.0 GPA working towards his graduate degree in higher education. As an undergrad at Northwestern, he finished with a 3.73 GPA and was listed on the Academic All-Big Ten team three times. He was named a 2021-22 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.
Washington had a breakout season with the Cavaliers in 2023, garnering All-America honors from 13 different publications. He was a First Team All-ACC selection and one of 10 semifinalists for the Biletnikoff Award. Washington amassed an ACC record 110 receptions and a UVA record 1,426 receiving yards. He surpassed UVA’s single-season receptions and receiving yards records in 11 games. His 110 receptions and school-record 10 100-yard receiving games led all FBS pass catchers. Washington caught nine touchdowns, including multi-TD games against NC State and Duke. He accounted for the go-ahead score in UVA’s 31-27 victory over then-No. 10 North Carolina on Oct. 22. Washington was also recognized as a finalist for the Pop Warner College Football Award.
