CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia Cavaliers (18-5, 9-3 ACC) extended their win streak to seven games with a 60-38 victory over the Miami Hurricanes (15-8, 6-6 ACC) on Monday night (Feb. 5) at John Paul Jones Arena.

The Cavaliers shot 48 percent (26 for 54) and committed just three turnovers, while the Hurricanes were held to 29 percent (14 for 49) shooting. Reece Beekman led Virginia with 16 points (6 for 11 FG), seven assists and four rebounds. Jake Groves added 12 points on 5 for 9 shooting. Isaac McKneely contributed nine points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Miami led for seven minutes at the start of the contest as Virginia struggled to find its offensive footing. A Beekman layup at the 13:45 mark ended three scoreless minutes for the Cavaliers, who then jumped out on a 12-0 scoring run to grab a 14-7 lead. After the Hurricanes responded with four quick points, the Hoos erupted on an 11-0 run, punctuated by a Taine Murray 3-pointer, to expand their lead to 14 points (25-11). A McKneely steal cut the Hurricanes’ last drive of the half short, sending Virginia into intermission up 29-17. Miami shot 28 percent (7 for 25) and committed five turnovers in the first half.

Miami was ultimately unable to upend the Virginia lead. The Cavaliers kicked off the second half with a 13-2 run, then held Miami to just six made FG for the remainder of the game.
