No. 9 Virginia Advances to MASC Championship Match

PHILADELPHIA – The No. 9 Virginia men’s squash team (9-5) picked up two victories at the 2024 Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference Championships on Saturday (Feb. 10) at the Arlen Specter U.S. Squash Center in Philadelphia, Pa.

The Cavaliers topped Dickinson 8-1 and Franklin & Marshall 9-0 to advance out of Group 2 to the championship match.

In the Dickinson match, both senior Myles McIntyre and junior Evan Hajek battled to five-game victories at positions one and three. The Red Devils picked up their lone point with a win at two. Virginia won six positions by 3-0 scores against Franklin & Marshall.

Junior Charles Braff picked up two wins on the day, increasing his personal win streak to seven straight matches. Max Velazquez, CJ Baldini, Drew Barr, and Patrick Keller also won both of their matches.

Virginia will take on No. 8 Drexel on Sunday at 10 a.m. playing for its fifth-straight Holley Cup. The Cavaliers have won all four previous MASC titles.

The six teams of the MASC are broken up into Group 1 and Group 2. UVA anchored Group 2 and faced the 3 and 6 seeds in group play on Saturday. Drexel anchored Group 1 and defeated Navy and MIT by 9-0 scores.
