CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –  Virginia women’s tennis senior Hibah Shaikh was named the ACC Player of the Week, with Shaikh and grad student Natasha Subhash named the ACC Doubles Team of the Week in honors announced Tuesday (Feb. 13) by the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Shaikh had a phenomenal weekend playing at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, helping to lead the Cavaliers to two wins against ranked opponents. In singles, she picked up her first career top-10 win on Friday (Feb. 9), taking down No. 6 Savannah Broadus of Pepperdine. She followed that with a straight-set win against No. 9 Kari Miller of Michigan on Saturday (Feb. 10).  She faced her third top-10 opponent, No. 8 Carson Tanguilig of UNC, on Sunday (Feb. 11), taking the first set before the match was abandoned during a tiebreaker to decide the second set.

Shaikh and Subhash went 2-0 in doubles, including a victory against No. 7 Abbey Forbes and Reilly Tran of North Carolina that clinched the doubles point in UVA’s 4-0 win against the Tar Heels.

The victory against Forbes and Tran was the 100th doubles victory in Subhash’s collegiate career. She is the seventh player in program history to reach that milestone.

This is Virginia’s second straight weekly conference honor after Mélodie Collard and Elaine Chervinsky were named the ACC Doubles Team of the Week last week (Feb. 13).
