CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The Atlantic Coast Conference announced Tuesday (Feb. 13) that Mel Josephson of the Virginia women’s lacrosse team has been named ACC Defensive Player of the Week following an impressive debut weekend for the sophomore.

A sophomore from Sea Bright, N.J., Mel Josephson introduced herself as the UVA starting goalkeeper when the Cavaliers traveled to Lynchburg to take on Liberty. Josephson was crucial in a 14-6 win for Virginia as she made 12 saves while facing 18 shots on goal.

Josephson followed up an impressive debut with another 12-save performance in a 10-9 win over Stanford. This time, the game came down to Josephson who made a pair of saves in the final two minutes of play to preserve a one-goal victory for the Cavaliers.

Josephson wrapped up the weekend with 24 total saves with a save percentage of .615.
