RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico. – Virginia sophomore Bryan Lee shot a career-best 9-under 63 to claim co-medalist honors and help No. 13 UVA to a runner-up finish at the Puerto Rico Classic at the Grand Reserve Golf Club. Lee finished the 54-hole event at 15-under 201, also a career best. It marked the first time Lee earned medalist honors while at UVA.

The Cavaliers saw all five team competitors shoot under par during Tuesday’s final round. Deven Patel, competing as an individual, also shot under par. UVA posted a score of 20-under 268 for a three-day total of 39-under 825. It was UVA’s best team score and single-round score of the season.

Georgia won the 15-team tournament at 42-under 822. Purdue’s Nels Surtani was the co-medalist with Lee.

Lee started the day in 20th place and used seven birdies and an eagle to rocket up the leaderboard. He posted four consecutive birdies on his 14th through 17th holes. Over his final 36 holes, Lee played the course at 15-under par.

Virginia All-American Ben James was just one shot behind Lee, placing third at 14-under 202. He had a bogey-free final round of 6-under 66. It was the 14th top-10 finish in James’ career.

Freshman Josh Duangmanee posted his best single-round score at UVA, shooting 4-under 68, to finish 53rd overall at 2-under 214. Chris Fosdick and Paul Chang both finished with scores of 1-under 71. Fosdick was 37th overall at 211 while Chang was 64th at 1-over 217.

Patel had a final-round score of 68 and was 30th at 6-under 210.

Virginia returns to action Feb. 19-21 at the Watersound Collegiate in Seacrest, Fla.
