CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia goalie Matthew Nunes has been named the ACC’s men’s lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week for games played Feb. 19-25, the conference office announced on Tuesday (Feb. 27).

Tuesday’s announcement marks Nunes’ fourth career ACC weekly honor. He is also the first goalie to be named ACC Defensive Player of the Week this season.

Nunes recorded a season-high 17 saves and surrendered only seven goals in UVA’s 14-8 win over No. 20 Ohio State this past Sunday (Feb. 25). His 17 saves are the most by an ACC goalie in a single game this season. Nunes held OSU scoreless in the second quarter, which allowed the Cavaliers to build up a 10-3 by halftime. He earned his 27th career win in net, which is currently tied for seventh all-time in school history.

No. 2 Virginia (3-0) hosts No. 7 Johns Hopkins (4-1) on Saturday (March 2). Opening faceoff from Klöckner Stadium is set for 1 p.m. on ACC Network.
