CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –  The Virginia men’s tennis team was named the 2024 ITA Division I Men’s National Team Indoor Championship Sportsmanship Award winner, as announced today (March 4) by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

Awarded each year following the conclusion of the ITA Division I National Team Indoor Championships, the ITA Team Sportsmanship Award is presented to the teams that display exceptional sportsmanship, character, and ethical conduct throughout the national championship.

Throughout the 2024 ITA Division I Men’s National Team Indoor Championship, the team that displayed these traits each day of the tournament was the University of Virginia. Finishing as semifinalists, the Cavaliers didn’t let the level of competition waiver their level of sportsmanship as even in the biggest of moments the coaching staff and players showed exceptional levels of character and respect.

“On behalf of the entire UVA Men’s Tennis Program, I would like to thank the ITA for the great honor of our team being named the Sportsmanship Award Winner at this year’s ITA National Indoor Championships,” said head coach Andres Pedroso. “Our program takes great pride in competing with class, respecting our opponents, and representing all the values that are expected of a collegiate tennis player.  Proper sportsmanship only elevates and enhances the competitive experience for our student-athletes, and we are happy to have played a small role in this important collective effort by all the teams at the ITA Indoors.”

Ohio State earned the women’s team award.

These two teams were praised not only by officials but also by opposing players and coaches alike for their great representation of our sport during this tournament.
