PHILADELPHIA – Four Virginia women’s squash team members competed at the 2024 National Collegiate Individual Championships March 8-10 at the Arlen Specter Center in Philadelphia, Pa.

Junior Maureen Foley and freshman Clare Minnis both won two matches on Friday to advance to the semifinals in the B-Division Holleran Cup but fell in Saturday’s semifinals.

Minnis opened play in the Holleran South bracket with a 2-11, 13-11, 11-0, 11-5 win against Katherine Sapinski of Princeton. She topped Emilia Falconi of Drexel 11-5, 11-2, 11-8 in the quarterfinals to advance. On Saturday, she suffered an 11-4, 11-8, 11-5 loss against Emma Trauber of Princeton.

Foley, playing in Holleran East, won 11-6, 11-5, 11-5 against Rhea Pandit of Williams in her opener. She had a tougher battle in the quarters, going to five games against Princeton’s Lucy Stephenson, notching the 7-11, 11-6, 11-8, 11-13, 11-8 victory. On Saturday, she fell 11-8, 11-5, 11-6 against Lucie Stefanoni of Harvard in the semis. This was Foley’s third time competing at the individual championships. She won a Holleran Cup consolation bracket last year.

Senior Meagan Best, the No. 2 seed in the A-Division Ramsay Cup, was upset in the quarterfinals, falling 13-11, 11-3, 11-6 to eventual national champion Saran Gregory-Nghiem of Harvard. This is her third time competing in the top tier of the championship. She was the 2022 Ramsay Cup Consolation Champion and made the semifinals in 2023.

Sophomore Lina Tammam also competed in the Ramsay Cup, dropping her first match 3-1 and also falling by that same score in the consolation bracket. This was her first time competing in the individual championships.
