Schwab Picks Up National Honors, Joins Maggie Bostain as ACC Players of the Week
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Morgan Schwab of the Virginia women’s lacrosse team has been honored by the IWLCA, USA Lacrosse Magazine and the ACC as player of the week following a pair of record-breaking outings. Virginia’s Maggie Bostain was also honored by the ACC as the league’s defensive player of the week.
Schwab’s week began with the 20-5 dismantling of No. 23 Richmond on Wednesday (March 6). The attacker set a Virginia single-game record with eight assists on the day, just three assists off the NCAA Division I record.
At No. 4 Notre Dame, Schwab led the Cavaliers in points with a pair of goals and four assists in a 12-10 road victory for Virginia. With her second assist against the Irish, Schwab surpassed the UVA career assist record of 129 set by Lindsay Sheehan in 1986. She now has 132 to her tally with eight remaining regular season games.
Bostain picks up her first honors of the season after a dominant defensive performance against No. 23 Richmond in which the Cavaliers held the Spiders without a goal for a run of 46:47 that spanned all four quarters.
Against the Spiders, Bostain accounted for four caused turnovers, four draw controls, two ground balls and a goal. She followed up her outstanding performance with another impressive outing as the Cavaliers downed Notre Dame on the road holding an offense that averaged 17.17 goals per game to just 10.
Schwab was also included in the first round of additions to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List (March 7). She becomes the second Cavalier to be named ACC Player of the Week and the first to earn a national weekly honor. She finished the week with two goals and 12 assists in total.
