Virginia Men’s Swimming to Send Six to NCAA Championships
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 17 Virginia men’s swimming & diving team had six swimmers qualify for the 2024 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships in individual or relay events, the NCAA announced on Wednesday (March 13). This year’s championships will be held March 27-30 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.
Swimmers qualified for the championships by meeting the established minimum time for the events in which they entered. Virginia finished 15th at the 2023 NCAA Championships and has posted top-15 finishes in the program’s last four appearances at the event.
The Cavaliers combined for six individual events and four relays among this year’s selections. Headlining that group is senior Matt Brownstead who will compete in the 50 free, 100 back, 100 free and four relay races. Brownstead enters the competition having earned All-America honors nine times over the past three years at the NCAAs.
Virginia will have relay teams in four events (200 medley, 200 free, 400 medley and 400 free). Those lineups were determined based on ACC Championship performances.
The Cavaliers competing at the NCAA Championships are: Connor Boyle (200 free relay, 400 medley relay, 400 free relay), Matt Brownstead (50 free, 100 back, 100 free, 200 medley relay, 200 free relay, 400 medley relay, 400 free relay), Tim Connery (200 IM, 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay, 400 free relay), August Lamb (200 medley relay, 200 free relay, 400 free relay), Simon Lins (200 free relay) and Noah Nichols (100 breast, 200 breast, 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay).
