CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia softball team (17-9) steps out of conference play for a non-conference matchup with Rutgers (18-11) at Palmer Park. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.

  • Virginia is coming off a series win over Syracuse after winnings games two and three of the series.
  • Jade Hylton continues to pace the UVA offense, hitting at a .354 clip with a team-leading 15 runs scored and 17 RBI. She is also tied for the team lead with five home runs.
  • Hylton had a big weekend at the plate, hitting .444 against Syracuse with all extra-base hits and three runs scored from the top of the lineup.
  • Eden Bigham continues to produce in the circle as she picked up her first save of the season in the finale against Syracuse, striking out six batters in her 3.0 innings of work.
  • Bigham has a team-leading 94 strikeouts and is closing in on her mark of 115 strikeouts set last season. She is limiting opponents to a .131 batting average against.
  • Mikayla Houge picked up her first win of the season with the Sunday victory over Syracuse. It marked her first start in the circle since the 2022 season when she started the finale against Central Arkansas at the National Softball Invitational Championship.


  • Virginia and Rutgers have faced off 14 times with Rutgers holding an 8-6 lead in the all-time series.
  • The teams last met in the 2019 season, a 4-0 victory by the Scarlet Knights in Charlottesville.
  • It was the only meeting between the teams since the 2008 season as part of a series that began in 1984.
  • Entering Tuesday’s contest, 13-of-14 matchups have been played in Charlottesville.
