Bostain and Carnevale Added to Tewaaraton Watch List, Three Cavaliers Honored by IL Women
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The Tewaaraton Foundation announced today (March 28) its second round of additions to the 2024 Tewaaraton Award Watch List. Among those included are Virginia women’s lacrosse players Maggie Bostain and Katia Carnevale. Additionally, Bostain, Morgan Schwab and Mel Josephson were named on IL Women’s list of Mid-Season All-Americans, the organization announced today.
The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by the Tewaaraton Foundation. Bostain and Carnevale join Mackenzie Hoeg and Morgan Schwab on a list of four Cavaliers named to the watch list in 2024.
A senior defender, Bostain has been a staple of the Cavalier defense in 2024. With a total of 18 caused turnovers, Bostain leads the Virginia defense and ranks third in the ACC. Bostain is second among Cavaliers in both draw controls and ground balls, picking up 23 and 18 respectively. A defender converted from a midfield position, Bostain has added a pair of goals to her tally this season.
A graduate transfer on the Virginia attack, Carnevale has provided an instant spark on the score sheet leading the Cavaliers in goals with 34 on the season, a mark that ranks fourth in the ACC and 23rd in NCAA Division I. Carnevale currently averages 3.09 goals per game notching four or more goals in six games this season.
Bostain was listed as a third-team defender on IL Women’s Mid-Season All-American teams. Mel Josephson was named an honorable mention along with Morgan Schwab. Schwab currently leads NCAA Division I with 41 assists on the season while ranking fifth in total points.
