Cavaliers Open Competition at Vertklasse Meeting
HIGH POINT, N.C. –The Virginia men’s and women’s track and field programs kickstarted a weekend full of competition at the Vertklasse Meeting on Friday (April 5) at Vert Stadium on the campus of High Point University in High Point N.C.
Trio of Cavaliers Finish in the Top-5
- John Fay threw for 66.24m/217-4 in the men’s hammer throw to finish second overall, first among collegians.
- Fay’s mark was not far off his personal best of 68.41m/224-5 set one week ago at the 2024 Raleigh Relays.
- In his first three attempts, Jacob Lemmon bettered his mark on each throw in the men’s hammer. Lemmon threw a season-best 64.42m/211-4 on his third throw of the competition to finish third overall.
- Fay and Lemmon finished as the top two collegiate athletes in the field.
- On her first jump of the competition, Mahkaia Lee leapt out 6.03m/19-9.5 to finish fourth in the women’s long jump. Lee’s mark is not far off her personal best of 6.09m/19-11.57 set two weeks ago at the Virginia Opener.
