Chizmar Tabbed ACC Defensive Player of the Week
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia short-stick defensive midfielder Noah Chizmar has been named the ACC men’s lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week, for games played April 1-7, the conference office announced on Tuesday (April 9).
Tuesday’s announcement marks Chizmar’s first career weekly honor.
Chizmar was sensational at both ends of the field in the Cavaliers’ 14-6 victory over North Carolina at Klöckner Stadium this past Saturday (April 6). He tied for a game-high two goals, collected four ground balls and two caused turnovers in UVA’s ACC opener. Chizmar has now scored two goals in two of the Cavaliers’ last three games, having also done so against Drexel (March 23).
Against the Tar Heels, Chizmar set the tone early by scoring an unassisted goal on the game’s opening possession. He then notched his first career game-winning goal with 10:36 remaining in the first half. A member of UVA’s top defensive midfield unit, Chizmar and the Cavaliers’ defense held Carolina’s starting offensive midfield scoreless. Additionally, one of Chizmar’s two caused turnovers came while UVA was man-down as he snagged a UNC pass out of midair and carried the ball across midfield to kill off the remainder of the penalty.
Up next, No. 2 Virginia (10-1, 1-0 ACC) travels to No. 3 Duke (10-3, 0-2 ACC) for its first ACC road test on Sunday (April 14). Opening faceoff from Koskinen Stadium is set for 2 p.m. on ACC Network.
