Virginia Named To NWCA Men’s Team Scholar All-America Top 30
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia wrestling team was tabbed as one of the top 30 academic performing teams in the nation when the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) announced the 2024 NCAA Division I Men’s Team Scholar All-America Top 30 rankings.
The Cavaliers finished the 2023-24 season with a starting lineup that boasted a 3.31 grade point average. The Hoos are one of only two ACC teams on the list along with Duke.
This season, the Cavaliers had great success off the mat with six individuals named to the All-ACC Wrestling Academic Team as well as five wrestlers who garnered individual NWCA Scholar All-America honors. Justin McCoy was a five-time selection to both squads.
On the mat, the Cavaliers sent four wrestlers to the NCAA Championships, while Nick Hamilton claimed the ACC Championship at 165 pounds and McCoy became the program’s first five-time NCAA qualifier after posting a runner-up finish at 174 pounds at the ACC Championships.
