Schwab Named to List of 25 Tewaaraton Nominees
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The Tewaaraton Foundation announced Thursday (April 18) its list of 25 women’s Tewaaraton Award Nominees which includes Virginia attacker Morgan Schwab.
The Tewaaraton Award is recognized as the pre-eminent lacrosse award, annually honoring the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are composed of premier college coaches and are appointed annually by the Tewaaraton Foundation.
Named a co-captain ahead of the 2024 season, Morgan Schwab (16g, 50a) has been the focal point of the Cavalier offense. Her season total of 50 assists ranks third in NCAA Division I as one of just five players to pass the 50-assist mark this season.
Schwab set a Virginia single-game record with eight assists in a 20-5 win over Richmond (March 6). In her very next outing, she broke a 38-year-old UVA record for career assists with her 130th in a road win over No. 4 Notre Dame. Schwab has continued to raise the bar with her career tally currently sitting at 148. The senior has recorded at least three assists in nine games this season.
Five women’s finalists will be selected from this group, to be announced May 9 at the conclusion of the regular season.
“The Tewaaraton Nominees are a truly exceptional group of student-athletes,” said Andy Phillips, President of the Tewaaraton Foundation. “Their outstanding play has created so many memorable moments and exciting games in 2024, and we fully expect to see more of the same as we head toward the postseason.”
