UVA Moves Up to Sixth at ACC Championships
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The No. 13 Virginia men’s golf team shot 6-under 278 to move up to sixth place at the ACC Championships following Saturday’s second-round of play. UVA stands at 4-under 564 at the par-71 Charlotte Country Club after 36 holes of competition. North Carolina leads the field at 16-under 552.
Following Sunday’s third round of stroke play, the top four teams will move on to the match play portion of the tournament. The medalist will be determined on Sunday in addition to the match play participants. Duke heads into the final round of stroke play in fourth place, two shots ahead of Virginia.
George Duangmanee led the Cavaliers on Saturday by shooting 3-under 68. He moved up to 12th place at 3-under 139. Bryan Lee is one shot behind him on the scoreboard after a second-round score of 69. Ben James is in 22nd place at even par 142 after shooting 1-under 70 during the second round. Deven Patel is in 28th place at 143 and Josh Duangmanee is 41st at 145. Patel carded a round of 71 on Saturday while Duangmanee shot 72.
North Carolina’s Peter Fountain leads the field at 8-under 134.
UVA will be paired with Wake Forest and Duke during the third round. Those teams will tee off starting at 8 a.m. from the first tee.
