Virginia Opens Competition at the 2024 Penn Relays
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Virginia men’s and women’s track and field teams opened their final weekend of regular-season competition at the prestigious Penn Relays on Thursday afternoon (April 25) as John Fay kicked things off in the hammer throw at Franklin Field.
After a strong performance at last weekend’s Virginia Challenge, junior John Fay turned in another strong performance in Philadelphia. In the College Men’s Hammer Throw Championship, Fay threw for 64.11m/210-4 on his second throw of the competition to send him through to the final. The top nine throwers after three throws advance to the final for three additional throws.
Fay bettered his mark on his fifth appearance in the ring. The Barrington, R.I. native threw for 64.74m/212-5 to lock down sixth place. Fay was not too far off his personal-best 68.41m/224-5 set this season at the 2024 Raleigh Relays. At the conclusion of the event, Fay finished sixth overall in his first Penn Relays as a collegiate. .
