Tyler Fenwick Promoted to Senior Associate Head Coach
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia head men’s and women’s swimming and diving head coach Todd DeSorbo announced today (May 14) the promotion of Tyler Fenwick to senior associate head coach. Fenwick has been a member of DeSorbo’s UVA staff since 2017, serving as the associate head coach.
“Tyler has been such an integral part of our programs success the last seven years as we started here at UVA together,” DeSorbo said. “He was my first hire and I’m excited to have him by my side for another seven seasons. He’s been particularly instrumental in our recent recruiting successes and has led the charge for the future of both our men and women. He’s always willing to take on any task, is very flexible and loyal. I am looking forward to even more success with Tyler and our program going forward.”
In seven seasons at UVA, Fenwick has helped Virginia to four consecutive NCAA women’s team championships and five ACC women’s titles. The men’s program has produced five top-20 finishes at the NCAA Championships since 2019. Since his arrival, the Cavaliers have produced 32 women’s national champions, 191 women’s individual All-Americans and 32 women’s All-American relay teams, 48 men’s individual All-Americans and 25 men’s All-American relay teams.
UVA swimmers have broken World Records twice and NCAA records 29 times over the last seven seasons and currently hold 11 of the 19 NCAA Championship swimming marks. During that same time, Cavalier swimmers broke American records 42 times and own a total of 20 current American records (long and short course). UVA competitors have won five Olympic medals (2020 Tokyo Olympics) and 49 World Championship medals including 18 World Championship gold medals since 2022.
The UVA men and women have each broken 15 school records and 21 long course meter records during Fenwick’s tenure. The team has achieved the highest GPAs in team history, had five ACC Swimmer of the Year award winners, and won 80 ACC Titles.
Fenwick served as assistant coach on the U.S. Pan Pacific Championship Team in 2018 and was the U.S. Open Water head coach for the 2015 and 2017 World University Games and the 2017 and 2018 UANA Pan American Championships. Fenwick was named to the U.S. national team coaches list in 2012-13, 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2019-20.
Fenwick has been integral to the Virginia program on and off the deck. His primary responsibilities include alumni relations, development and fundraising, program marketing and promotion, social media creative services and management and recruiting.
Fenwick served as the associate head coach at Tennessee from 2012-17. During his time with the Volunteers, he helped coach four U.S. Olympians, guiding the team to 100 All-American selections and 36 school records.
Prior to Tennessee, Fenwick coached the Men’s National Team with the Mission Viejo Nadadores in Mission Viejo, Calif. While working with the Nadadores, Fenwick coached swimmers to 88 NAG Top 10 performances, developed nine National Junior Team members and two US National Team Members.
Fenwick served as the assistant coach for Germantown Academy Aquatic Club in Fort Washington, Pa., from 2004-07 under legendary US Olympic Team Coach Richard Shoulberg.
Fenwick attended Germantown Academy in Philadelphia. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English from William and Mary and a master of science in sports management from Tennessee. He lives in Charlottesville with his wife, Hayley, his daughters, Harper and Brooklyn, and his dogs Maximus.
