Four Cavaliers Earn ITA All-America Honors
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced today (June 5) the Division I Men’s student-athletes who earned All-American Honors in 2024. The honorific All-America title is given to student-athletes who earn a top 16 seed in the NCAA Singles Championship or advance to the round of 16 and to those who finish in the top 20 of the final ITA singles rankings.
Senior Chris Rodesch and freshman Dylan Dietrich were named singles All-Americans while senior Iñaki Montes and grad student James Hopper earned the accolade in doubles.
Rodesch was awarded the No. 4 seed in the NCAA Singles Championship. In his final season of play, he posted a 22-4 record in singles and has held a spot in the top 10 of the ITA rankings since mid-February. He withdrew from the singles championship due to illness and finished his career with a 94-27 record in singles. This is his third consecutive season being named a singles All-American. He is the sixth player in program history to earn All-America honors in singles three or more times.
Dietrich, the ACC Freshman of the Year, advanced to the Round of 16 of the NCAA Singles Championship. Ranked as high as No. 45 in singles during his rookie season, he posted a 23-7 record this season. Dietrich is the third player in program history to be named a singles All-American during his freshman year, joining Alex Domijan (2011) and Mitchell Frank (2012).
Montes and Hopper were named a 5-8 seed in the NCAA Doubles draw but withdrew before the start of the competition. In the fall, they made the semifinals of the ITA All-American, picking up a pair of top-10 wins. They went 11-3 overall with an 8-2 record in dual matches.
This is Montes’ third straight year earning All-America honors. He was a doubles All-American last season with partner Ryan Goetz and was a singles All-American his sophomore year. He is the seventh player in program history to be named both a singles and doubles All-American during their career.
This is Hopper’s ninth career All-America honor but his first at the NCAA Division I level with Virginia. He was a four-time ITA Singles All-American and four-time ITA Doubles All-American at NCAA III Case Western Reserve, winning the NCAA Doubles titles in 2022 and 2023, before coming to UVA as a graduate transfer.
With this year’s designations, 24 different Cavaliers have combined to earn 61 singles and doubles All-America honors in the program’s history.
