CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia head coach Sara O’Leary announced today (June 12) that Martina Genis Salas of Tarragona, Spain, will join the women’s tennis team as a freshman in 2023-24.

“We can’t wait to welcome Martina into our UVA family this fall,” O’Leary said. “Martina has experience playing at the highest levels of junior tennis and is one of the best players in the world. In recruiting, we are always looking for great tennis players but also people of excellent character who love UVA and Charlottesville as much as we do. This is exactly what we saw in Martina. She fits into our culture so well, and I know she will have a great impact on our team and this community!”

Genis Salas has been ranked as high as No. 36 in the ITF World Junior Rankings. She won both the singles and doubles draws in her home tournament in Tarragona, Spain. She hoisted the singles trophy in Cap d’Ail, France, after earning her spot in the main draw through qualifying.
