CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Virginia Dean and Markel Families Men’s Head Basketball Coach Tony Bennett announced Friday (June 14) that sophomore Elijah Gertrude will miss the 2024-25 season due to a knee injury.

Gertrude injured his right knee in a scooter accident on April 30. He underwent successful surgery to repair the knee on May 17.

Gertrude, a 6-4, 185-pound guard, averaged 3.4 points and 1.2 rebounds in 16 contests in 2023-24. He made his collegiate debut in a win against then-No. 14 Texas A&M. Gertrude scored a season-high 13 points against NCCU and recorded six points, three rebounds and two steals in 19 minutes against North Carolina.

“Elijah will miss the 2024-25 season after suffering a knee injury in an unfortunate accident,” Bennett said. “He had a solid first season on Grounds and was off to a terrific start in our offseason workouts. Elijah’s surgery went well and he is already working hard on his rehabilitation.”
