Five Cavaliers Honored on All-ACC Academic Team
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Five members of the Virginia women’s golf team were named to the All-ACC Academic Team today (June 17).
The players recognized were juniors Megan Propeck (Leawood, Kan.) and Amanda Sambach (Pinehurst, N.C.), senior Rebecca Skoler (Needham, Mass.), graduate student Celeste Valinho (Jacksonville, Fla.) and freshman Jaclyn LaHa (Pleasanton, Calif.)
Valinho was named to the squad for the fourth consecutive year while Sambach was a three-time selection and Propeck and Skoler were honored for the second time in their careers.
Sambach was named an All-American for the third consecutive year after finishing the season ranked No. 11 in the NCAA individual rankings. She led the Cavaliers with a 71.45 stroke average. Sambach had seven top-10 performances in 11 total tournaments. She won Toledo’s Glass City Invitational for the fourth victory in her career. She led UVA in scoring at the ACC Championships, NCAA Regional and NCAA Championships in addition to five regular-season tournaments. She was named an All-ACC performer for the third consecutive season.
Skoler was among four UVA student-athletes who received an ACC Weaver-James-Corrigan-Swofford Postgraduate Award Scholarship. She played in all 11 UVA events this season and led the team in scoring with a career-best second-place finish at The Show tournament.
Propeck and LaHa also played in all 11 events this season. LaHa led UVA in scoring at the Stanford Intercollegaite and the Liz Murphey Collegiate. Propeck posted three top-10 finishes while also posting her best collegiate tournament and single-round scores during the season.
Valinho appeared in nine tournaments and recorded her fifth top-10 career finish during the season. She played in a total of 39 tournaments during her Cavalier career.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career for undergraduate students. The student-athlete must have participated in at least 50% of their team’s contests.
