PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Virginia senior Yasin Sado set the program record in the 3000m steeplechase Saturday night at the Penn Relays Summer Showcase #3 at Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pa.

Despite a fifth-place finish at the US Olympic Team Trials, Yasin Sado put his fitness to the test at the Penn Relays Summer Showcase. Sado crossed the line in a 10-second personal-best of 8:17.39 to finish second overall and break his teammate Nate Mountain’s school record of 8:20.68 set this season at the Virginia Challenge. Coming into the competition, Sado’s season and personal best stood at 8:27.13 from the NCAA East preliminary from just one month ago.

A familiar venue is Franklin Field as Sado was a member of Virginia’s record breaking 4xMile team at the Penn Relays earlier this spring. The quartet of Will Anthony, Gary Martin, Wes Porter and Sado clocked 15:52.30 to dip under the previous collegiate record to set the Virginia record and record the second-fastest time in collegiate history and fourth-fastest time in world history. The Aurora, Colo. native continued his record-breaking streak in Philadelphia. The 2024 Outdoor ACC runner-up, NCAA seventh-place finisher and Olympic Trials fifth-place finisher can add 3000m steeplechase school recorder holder to his resume.
