CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia’s director of cross country, Vin Lananna, announced the program’s 2024 schedule today (July 9). It features two home meets including the Virginia Invitational and the Panorama Farms Invitational.

The Cavaliers enter the 2024 season after a third-place finish by both the men’s and women’s teams at the ACC Cross Country Championships and a 15th-place finish for the women and 22nd-place finish by the men at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.

On the men’s side, the team returns top finisher from the 2023 NCAA Cross Country Championships in junior Will Anthony. Anthony finished 61st at the event that was held at UVA’s home course at Panorama Farms. For the women, Jenny Schilling earned All-American honors for her 39th-place finish. Schilling ended the drought as she is the first Virginia distance runner to earn All-American honors since Barbara Strehler in 2013.  Margot Appleton also ran a strong race finishing 51st in the field and will return to the course this fall.

The Cavaliers open their season on the road at the Spider Alumni Open in Richmond, Va. (Aug. 31), before hosting the Virginia Invitational at Panorama Farms (Sept. 14). The postseason will see the team travel to Raleigh, N.C. for the ACC Championships (Nov. 1), and Rock Hill, S.C. for the Southeast Regional Championships (Nov. 15) before returning to Madison, Wisc. for the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
