CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Former University of Virginia standout rower Heidi Long and the Great Britain Women’s Eight are headed to the A Final at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Long and Great Britain raced past Australia 6:16.20-6:18.61 to win its heat and advance to the A Final on Saturday, Aug. 3 at 4:50 a.m. ET at the Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium. Canada (6:21.31) finished third in the heat, while Denmark (6:39.30) finished fourth.

Long (’19) is making her Olympic debut in Paris. The Buckinghamshire, England, native was a member of UVA’s ACC champion Varsity Eight from 2016-19. She earned ACC Freshman of the Year in 2016 and is a two-time All-American and All-ACC performer. Long helped UVA to four ACC titles and three top-10 finishes at the NCAA championships.

After competing at the international U19 and U23 levels, Long joined the senior team in 2021. She helped Great Britain’s Women’s Four to titles at the 2022 European and World Championships. Long was a member of the Women’s Eight that won silver at this year’s World Rowing Cup.
