Tuesday Olympic Swimming Recap
PARIS – Virginia senior Gretchen Walsh advanced to the final of the 100 Freestyle after her preliminary and semifinal swims on Tuesday (July 30) at the Olympic swimming competition at Paris La Defense Arena in Paris, France.
Walsh, the lone Cavalier competing on Tuesday, posted a 53.54 in the morning heats to qualify eighth for the semifinals. She posted a 53.18 in the semis to earn the eighth spot in Wednesday’s event final.
Walsh was added to the event after UVA alum Kate Douglass, the 100 free champion at US Trials, dropped the event.
Douglass will be back in action on Wednesday morning, swimming in the 200 Breast prelims. The semifinal of the event will be held in the second session of the day as well as the 100 Free final. The prelim starts at 5 a.m. with the second session starting at 2:30 p.m.
The Olympic swimming events run through Sunday, August 4.
