UTICA, N.Y.–  Virginia women’s lacrosse sophomore defender Cece Webb has been invited by USA Lacrosse to a three-day training camp for consideration for the U.S. Women’s Box Team. The camp is being held August 23-25 in Utica, N.Y.

Webb is one of 32 players invited to training camp by head coach Ginny Capicchioni vying for a spot on the final roster for the 2024 U.S. Women’s Box Team that will be competing at the 2024 World Lacrosse Box Championships Sept. 20-29, also in Utica. This is the first time that World Lacrosse has hosted a women’s championship in box lacrosse.

Capicchioni expects to announce the U.S. team’s final 23-player roster within a few days following the conclusion of the training camp.

Played inside a multi-sport rink, box lacrosse has a distinct set of rules from the field game. The playing surface is enclosed by boards, usually made of wood or plastic, and each team has six players on the floor—five runners and one goaltender. Each game consists of four 15-minute quarters.

Webb did not appear in a game last season for the Cavaliers but had a highly decorated prep career as a two-time USA All-American and an All-USA Today High School Player of the Year nominee. She has twice been invited to participate in the National Team Development Program.
