CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia head coach Steve Garland announced the 2023-24 wrestling schedule on Thursday (Sept. 12) with a slate that features a mix of tournament dates and dual competition – including seven home duals.

Fans can get a preview of the season’s action at the program’s wrestle offs to be held at Mem Gym (Oct. 25). The free intrasquad competition is open to the public.

The Cavaliers officially open the season at home against North Dakota State (Nov. 1) before traveling to compete at the Southeast Open (Nov. 2). Virginia will then compete in the inaugural Throwdown on The Yorktown (Nov. 8) where the Cavaliers will face The Citadel and Gardner Webb in competition on the U.S.S. Yorktown. Virginia will close November at home against Michigan (Nov. 24).

The Cavaliers have three competitions in December, hosting Penn (Dec. 6) before wrestling at VMI (Dec. 7) and competing at the Sheridan Tournament hosted by Lehigh (Dec. 20).

The Hoos open 2025 at the Southern Scuffle (Jan 4-5) before jumping exclusively into dual competition.

In January, Virginia will host NC State (Jan. 17) before traveling to face Stanford (Jan. 24) and Virginia Tech (Jan. 31).

February will see the Cavaliers host three duals with Duke (Feb. 7), American (Feb. 8) and Pittsburgh (Feb. 21). Virginia’s lone road trip in February will be to North Carolina (Feb. 16).

Virginia will compete at the ACC Championships at Duke (March 9) before the NCAA Championships (March 20-22) in Philadelphia, Pa.

NOTING THE HOOS

  • Virginia returns Nick Hamilton who was ACC Champion at 165 pounds last season and was named Most Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament
  • The Cavaliers also return seven wrestlers to the lineup who were ranked in the 2023-24 season: Marlon Yarbrough (133), Jack Gioffre (141), Michael Gioffre (149), Dylan Cedeno (157), Hamilton (165), Hadyn Danals (184) and Hunter Catka (HWT).
