CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The third-ranked Virginia men’s golf team will be back on the course when it competes at the Hamptons Intercollegiate, hosted by Loyola University. The 54-hole event will take place at The Maidstone Club in East Hampton, N.Y. on Monday (Oct. 7) and Tuesday (Oct. 8)

The 12-team field will begin play rounds one and two on Monday and finish up the competition on Tuesday with the final round.

The Cavaliers have won the Hamptons Collegiate twice, 2021 (3-way tie) and 2022. In 2022 the Cavaliers shot 3-over 868 during the 54-hole event to post a 35-shot advantage over runner-up Yale (903). That is the largest margin of victory in a tournament in program history, topping the 31-shot difference the Hoos posted versus runner-up Virginia Tech at the 1993 ECU Emerald Intercollegiate.

Then-freshman Ben James, won his second tournament in his first three outings. James shot 5-under 211, including a final-round of 3-under 69, to finish nine shots ahead of a trio of players in second place. It was tied for the largest margin of victory for an individual medalist in UVA history. Jimmy Flippen posted a nine-shot win in 1991 at the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate.
