EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. – No. 3 Virginia combined to shoot a 5-under 859 to place third at the Hamptons Intercollegiate played at the Maidstone Club. The Cavaliers were one stroke behind second-place finishers, Florida State and have now finished in the top three in each of their three tournaments this fall.

Virginia posted the best third-round score of any team in the field with a combined 8-under par. Four Cavaliers were under par in the final round – Deven Patel (68), Bryan Lee (70), Ben James (71) and Josh Duangmanee (71).

Patel was UVA’s top finisher, coming in a tie for seventh after shooting back-to-back 68s in rounds two and three. Patel totaled a 1-under, 215, his lowest score of the season and his sixth career top-10 finish.

One stroke behind Patel was James, the reigning ACC Golfer of the Month, who finished his second round on Tuesday morning by carding a 68 before finishing with a 1-under, 71 in the third round. He was even par for the tournament which tied him for ninth place. The top-10 finish was his third in three tournaments this fall.

The Cavaliers will wrap up their fall tour next weekend (Oct. 18-20) at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate hosted by Georgia Tech.
