SEASON OVERVIEW

  • This year marks the 46th season of Virginia Volleyball, which held its inaugural season in 1979.
  • In 45 complete seasons, UVA is 681-767 (.470) all-time.
  • The Cavaliers have eight home matches remaining this season, starting Oct. 18 against Duke.
  • Head coach Shannon Wells is in her fourth season at the helm.

SERIES HISTORY

  • Clemson has won four straight matches over Virginia and leads the series, 46-23. The Cavaliers’ most recent win in the series was in 2019, when they swept the Tigers. Clemson took the only 2023 match, 3-1 (26-24, 19-25, 27-29, 12-25).
  • Georgia Tech has the all-time series advantage over Virginia with a record of 42-22. The Yellow Jackets took the 2023 meeting in five sets (11-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-22, 13-15). The last time the Cavaliers defeated the Yellow Jackets was in 2017 when Virginia won in four sets (25-21, 15-25, 25-22, 25-18).

LAST TIME OUT

  • It was a historic weekend for the Virginia Volleyball program as the Cavaliers swept No. 16 Florida State for the highest-ranked win in program history before ending the weekend out by sweeping Miami in the second-ever volleyball match played at John Paul Jones Arena.
  • In the match with the Seminoles, Elayna Duprey led the way offensively for the Cavaliers with a match-high 14 kills and one ace. Defensively, Lauryn Bowie and Kate Dean each had four blocks while Milan Gomillion’s 19 digs tied for a match high.
  • In the JPJ takeover match against Miami, the Cavaliers were again led by Duprey with a match-high 12 kills and one ace. Dean paced the Cavaliers defensively with a season-high six blocks while Gomillion and Brooklyn Borum each had 12 digs.

 HOT START

  • Virginia is 13-2 (or better) for the first time since 2003, when it won its first 16 matches of the season.
  • UVA is off to its first 3-1 start in ACC play since 2015.
  • The Cavaliers earned their second consecutive victory over an ACC opponent for the first time since 2019, when they took down Boston College and Virginia Tech in straight sets.

 VIRGINIA WELCOMES SEVEN NEWCOMERS IN 2024

  • Of UVA’s 16 players on its 2024 roster, seven of them are new to the program.
  • The Cavaliers’ roster features three transfers Kadynce Boothe (OH) from Tennessee, Kate Dean (MB) from Eastern Illinois and Elayna Duprey (OH) from Virginia Tech.
  • Virginia’s freshmen, who made up the nation’s No. 26 signing class of 2023 according to PrepDig.com, consist of Sarah Brodner (OH/RS), Zoey Dood (S), Teagan Hogan (DS/L) and Becca Wight (RS).

HOOS IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS

  • As a team, Virginia ranks in the top 100 in several categories nationally including opponent hitting percentage (.164/31st), team total blocks (138.5/71st) and blocks per set (2.39/72nd).
  • Abby Tadder and Gomillion lead the way in the individual rankings. Tadder ranks 81st in the country averaging 1.21 blocks per set and 66th nationally in total blocks with 68. Gomillion’s 249 digs on the season place her 81st nationally and her digs per set mark of 4.29 also ranks her 81st in the country.
