CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 3 Virginia field hockey team (10-2) suffered a tough loss (2-5) to No. 8 St. Joseph’s (11-2) on Sunday (Oct.13) at Turf Field in Charlottesville, Va.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Earning a total of five corners in the first half, St. Joseph’s capitalized on three opportunities to lead the Cavaliers by three goals. Virginia responded in the second quarter as Emma Watchilla dribbled in the circle to score her fifth goal of the season.

After a quite third quarter, both teams increased the speed of play in the fourth quarter of play. Decreasing the deficit to one, Mia Abello scored her fourth goal of the season assisted by Emily Field and Meghan Hengerer. With less then 10 minutes in the final quarter, Virginia pulled Tyler Kennedy from the goal in exchange for an extra player in the field. Not working in Virginias favor, St. Joseph’s scored two goals on the open net to lengthen the lead 2-5.

 

Virginia becomes 10-2 on the season, breaking the undefeated streak at Turf Field this season. The Cavaliers remain 4-1 in the ACC.
