ALPHARETTA, Ga. – The No. 4 Virginia men’s golf team leads the way after round one at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate after shooting a 9-under 279, one-shot ahead of second-place UCLA. Sophomore Josh Duangmanee shot an opening round 68 (-4) and is tied for fifth place, two shots off the overall lead.

Led by Duangmanee, four of the five Virginia competitors shot par or better over the first 18 holes. The Cavaliers posted 23 birdies on the first day, second most in the field. UVA was a combined 11-under on the par-5s on the day, best of any team in the field. The Cavaliers had four of its birdies on the 18th hole.

Junior Ben James carded a 3-under 69 and Bryan Lee came in with a 2-under 70 which featured an eagle on the 18th hole. Paul Chang rounded out the UVA scorers with an even par 72.

The second round is set to begin on Saturday (Oct. 19) at 9:50 a.m. off hole 10. The tournament concludes on Sunday with the third and final round.
