No. 4 Virginia Plays at No. 2 North Carolina on Friday
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 4 Virginia field hockey team (12-2, 5-1 ACC) travels to play at No. 2 North Carolina (12-0, 5-0 ACC) on Friday, Oct. 25 at 5 p.m. at Karen Shelton Stadium in Chapel Hill, N.C.

- Virginia remained at No. 4 in this week’s NFHCA Coaches Poll
- Senior back Emily Field is the reigning ACC Defensive Player of the Week. She a game-saving defensive save in the final minute of the second overtime of the shootout victory against Syracuse. She also helped hold Miami to just one shot in Sunday’s victory against the Redhawks
- Emily Field also assisted on a goal in the win against Syracuse, her ninth of the season. She ranks second in the ACC and ninth in the NCAA in assists per game
- Sophomore Emma Watchilla scored her team-leading six goal of the season in the win against Syracuse. Watchilla has scored two goals in the last three games. She scored one goal her freshman season
- Watchilla is tied for second on the team in points with 12. Grad student Suze Leemans also has 12 points on five goals and two assists
- Junior midfielder Daniela Mendez-Trendeler continues to lead the team in points with 14 (five goals, four assists)
- Sophomore Mia Abello went 2-fo-2 in the shootout against Syracuse, including converting the game-winner. She also converted a penalty stroke against Miami
- Senior back Jans Croon scored the game-tying goal against Syracuse, converting a penalty corner opportunity with 3:12 remaining in regulation. It was Croon’s third goal of the year
- Virginia is the last team to defeat North Carolina, winning 3-2 in last year’s regular-season meeting on Oct. 20. Virginia trailed 2-0 at the half, but scored three times in the first eight minutes of the second half. North Carolina won 3-2 in the semifinals of the ACC tournament and 2-0 in the semifinals of the NCAA tournament
