Hoos Host North Dakota State To Open Season Friday
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia wrestling team (0-0) kicks off the 2024-25 season on Friday (Nov. 1) when the Cavaliers host North Dakota State (0-0) in a 4 p.m. dual at the Aquatics & Fitness Center.
Admission is free.

- Virginia returns Nick Hamilton who was ACC Champion at 165 pounds last season and was named Most Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament.
- The Cavaliers also return seven wrestlers to the lineup who were ranked in the 2023-24 season: Marlon Yarbrough (133), Jack Gioffre (141), Michael Gioffre (149), Dylan Cedeno (157), Hamilton (165), Hadyn Danals (184) and Ryan Catka (HWT).
- The dual with the Bison is the first of seven home dates for the Cavaliers this season as Virginia will also host No. 10 Michigan (Nov. 24), Penn (Dec. 7), No. 8 NC State (Jan. 17), Duke (Feb. 7), American (Feb. 16) and No. 25 Pitt (Feb. 21).
- Next weekend, the Cavaliers hit the road to face Gardner-Webb and The Citadel at the Throwdown on the Yorktown in Charleston, S.C., with both duals wrestled on the U.S.S. Yorktown.
- Virginia continues to wrestle on the road on Saturday with a group of wrestlers competing at the Southeast Open in Salem, Va.
THE SERIES WITH NORTH DAKOTA STATE
- Virginia and North Dakota State have faced off six times with the Hoos leading the series 4-2.
- The teams met last season in Fargo with the Cavaliers taking a 21-18 win over the Bison.
- This is the third meeting between the teams in Charlottesville where Virginia holds a 2-0 record in the series.
- Entering the season opener, the teams have faced twice in a neutral-site dual, twice in Charlottesville and twice in Fargo.
