MORELOS, Mexico – Virginia first-year Rafael Jódar picked up his first career main draw victories on the ATP Challenger Tour, advancing to the semifinals of the Morelos Open.

Playing in his fourth career ATP Challenger main draw, Jódar opened his tournament with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 win over Roberto Cid Subervi on Tuesday (April 1) in the round of 32. The win was Jódar’s maiden main draw victory on the ATP Challenger Tour.

Jódar followed with a victory over the world No. 404 Stefan Kozlov 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 on Wednesday (April 2) to advance to the quarterfinals.

In the quarterfinals, Jódar rallied back after dropping the first set to take down the world No. 224 Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez 5-7, 7-5, 6-1 on Friday (April 4) to reach the semifinals of the Morelos Open.

His run came to an end on Saturday (April 5) in the semifinals, falling to the world No. 168 Marc-Andrea Huesler in three sets.
