2025: The Year in Photos

Relive the most iconic moments from this year in Virginia Athletics through the words of UVA Athletics Director of Photography Jamie Holt and the photographs from her and the photography team:

When I was brainstorming how I wanted to structure this article, I couldn't help but be inspired by the recent success of our UVA Football team and their first ever 11 win season so I've decided to break this up into four quarters to best break down the moments of the year.

FIRST QUARTER

January - March

The first quarter of our year brought more trophies back home to Charlottesville: we had our Men's Track & Field Distance Medley Relay win at the NCAA Indoor National Championship and our Women's Swim & Dive team bring home not just another ACC Championship but also their 5th NCAA Championship in a row (talk about dominating the pool)! On the court we saw Women's Basketball secure an away win in Blacksburg over Virginia Tech and on the field we watched in awe at Softball's upset win over #4 UCLA at the Clearwater Invitational. Lastly, we welcomed our new Men's Basketball Head Coach Ryan Odom to Charlottesville and captured the beginning of his tenure.

SECOND QUARTER

April - June

The "second quarter" of our year brought postseason runs for many of our spring sports, including a run to the championship match for Men's Golf, NCAA round hosting for our Men's and Women's tennis teams, and an ACC Outdoor Championship title for Women's Track & Field. Adding another new face to the UVA Athletics crew, we had Coach Chris Pollard take the helm for our UVA Baseball program.

THIRD QUARTER

July - September

With the end of summer and the beginning of fall, our fall sport season began. Field Hockey had a undefeated start to their season, Women's Soccer upset #2 Duke in a 3-1 thriller, and Men's Soccer shook the soccer world with an upset of #1 Wake Forest. They weren't the only teams with insane upset wins, Football won one of the wildest games in recent UVA memory with their double overtime win over #8 Florida State.

FOURTH QUARTER

October - December

We wrapped up our year with somehow more steam than we began with thanks to postseason runs for both Men's and Women's Soccer, Field Hockey capturing the ACC Regular Season title, and Cross Country hosting NCAA Southeast Regionals. Football continued their historic season as well by defeating Virginia Tech to bring the Commonwealth Cup back to Charlottesville and a bowl win against Missouri in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl to mark UVA Football's first ever 11 win season.

OVERTIME

This year marked many new memories for the Hoos that will not be forgotten soon - more ACC and National Champions, more upset wins, more seas of cheering fans, and endless moments in the Orange and Blue that we had the honor of documenting. None of this would be possible without the talent of Olivia McLucas who's resilience, kindess, and dedication is neverending, our students Josie, Grace, Ewan, Hope, Nik, Luke, and Sumner who help cover every aspect of Wahoo Nation, and numerous individuals in and around our Hoos Creative staff. I cannot wait to see what 2026 brings and I'm postive it will be nothing short of spectacular.

Go Hoos!    -Jamie Holt, Director of Athletics Photography
