Martin Earns First Team All-America Honors on Day 2 of NCAA Indoor Championships

Gary Martin earned his spot on the podium in the men's mile with a fourth place finish on the second day of competition at the 2026 NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. on Saturday (March 14)

Fayetteville, ARK. — The Virginia No. 10 men’s and women’s track and field team completed competition at the 2026 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark. on Saturday (March 14) as Gary Martin finished fourth in the men's mile and earned first team All-America accolades. 

At the conclusion of 17 scored events, the Virginia men tied for 12th place with a total of 18 points in the team standings. The Cavaliers tied with the University of Alabama. 

For all the Glory 
  • Gary Martin finished fourth in the men's mile final clocking 3:59.50 to earn first team All-America honors.
  • Martin earned the third indoor All-America honors and second first team All-America honors of his career.
  • The senior ran for redemption in the men's mile after getting tripped up two years ago where he ultimately finished 12th.
  • Last season, Martin finished runner-up in the men's 3000-meters and anchored the men's distance medley relay to the first NCAA Indoor title in program history. 
 
Friday / Day 1 Recap
  • Jeremiah Nubbe threw a new personal best of 24.29m/79-8.25 to finish runner-up in the men's weight throw.
  • Nubbe broke his own school record and ACC record on his third throw of the competition. The previous records stood at 24.17m/79-3.75.
  • After a fourth place finish a year ago, Nubbe earned his third All-America and second first team All-America honors of his career.
  • Keyandre Davis finished fourth with his third round mark of 22.84m/74-11.25.
  • Davis earned the first indoor first team All-America honors of his career.
  • Nubbe and Davis are just the second and third Cavaliers to earn All-America honors in the event in program history.
  • Jordan Young garnered All-America honors in the event in 2015 (4th) and 2017 (3rd) before Nubbe earned the honor last season (4th). 
  • The Cavaliers scored a total of 13 points in the men's weight throw event.
  • Gary Martin recorded the fastest qualifying time of 3:55.13 in the men's mile.
  • In her NCAA Indoor Championships debut, Tatum David earned second team All-America honors in the women's mile crossing the line in 4:43.30 for 15th place overall.
  • Also in his first NCAA Indoor Championships, Tyler Edson earned second team All-America honors in the men's 8000-meter clocking 1:48.89 for 15th place. 
  • The men's distance medley relay (DMR) team of Harrison Witt, Anders Felts, Alex Leath, and Nathan Mountain finished nineth with their time of 9:31.55.
  • Mountain anchored in the second fastest split of 3:56.35 for 1600-meters.
