HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cavaliers opened the scoring in the first inning with Jade Hylton scoring on a single through the left side from Macee Eaton.
Hylton scored again in the third, this time on a double laced down the right field line by Kassidy Hudson. Two batters later, Hudson stole home on a delayed steal with Kelsey Hackett getting caught in a rundown between first and second, but successfully taking second on the play. Virginia led 3-0 after the third.

The Cavaliers added two more in the fourth with a sac fly from Hudson that scored Reagan Hickey. It was followed up with an RBI single from Eaton to give Virginia the 5-0 lead.
Georgia Tech scratched out a run in the fifth off a bases-loaded walk, but got nothing else as the Hoos claime the rubber match.
Eden Bigham (8-0) picked up the win, working a complete game and allowing the one run on six hits with four walks and seven strikeouts.
Madalyn Johnson (8-7) took the loss, allowing five runs on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts. She worked 3.1 innings in the start.

FROM HEAD COACH JOANNA HARDIN
“Our response to things not going our way as a total turn from Saturday. We handled our emotions well and channeled them in the right direction. Scoring in the first inning set the tone for us. It felt like it was our game the whole time. We play so much better when we’re in the present, competing to win right now and playing for every pitch. There’s a lot more freedom when you stay in the moment. Things still weren’t perfect, but the whole approach was the difference.”
