Virginia Earns At-Large Bid to NCAA Tournament

The Cavaliers will be a No. 10 seed and take on No. 10 seed Arizona State (24-10) in a First Four matchup on Thursday, (March 19) at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia women’s basketball team (19-11) earned an at-large bid to the 2026 NCAA Tournament, as announced Sunday night (March 15) by the selection committee. The Cavaliers will be a No. 10 seed and take on No. 10 seed Arizona State (24-10) in a First Four matchup on Thursday, (March 19) at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa.

Tipoff times and television designations are still to be announced.

The winner of the Virginia-Arizona State game will meet No. 7 seed Georgia (22-9) in the first round on Saturday (March 21).

“I’m just excited for the experience for this team,” said head coach Amaka Agugua-Hamilton. “I just think we have a lot of players on our team that this will be the first time that they’ve been to the NCAA Tournament and we have players that have been to the NCAA Tournament that will get a chance to play significant minutes. I just want them to seize the day, stay present and compete.”

Virginia will make its 26th appearance in the NCAA Tournament. This mark’s UVA’s first appearance since 2018, and the first under head coach Amaka Agugua-Hamilton. The Cavaliers hold an all-time record of 34-25 in the tournament including making three straight trips to the Final Four from 1990-92.
