CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Virginia senior attackman Truitt Sunderland has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week for games played March 16-22, the conference office announced Tuesday (March 24). The award is the first of his career and the first earned by a UVA player in the 2026 season.
Sunderland was instrumental in the Cavaliers’ 16-11 win over Utah at Scott Stadium last Saturday (March 21). He tied his career high of six goals, which are second most by an ACC player in any game this season. Sunderland was also the only ACC player to record six points in a game last week.
A native of Baltimore, where he graduated high school from Calvert Hall College, Sunderland is currently second among all ACC players in goals per game (2.89) and sixth in points per game (3.78).
North Carolina faceoff specialist Brady Wambach and Syracuse defenseman Riley Figueiras shared co-defensive honors.
Up next, Virginia (5-4) opens ACC play by hosting No. 1 Notre Dame (6-0) on Saturday (March 28). Opening faceoff from Klöckner Stadium is set for noon on ESPNU and WINA (98.9 FM/1070 AM). The Fighting Irish are one of five undefeated Division I teams and will enter Saturday's contest on 13 days rest, having been idle since March 14. UND has won eight of its last nine ACC regular-season games, dating back to 2023.
