CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia senior Annabelle Xu has been named the ACC Women's Tennis Player of the Week in honors announced Tuesday (March 31) by the Atlantic Coast Conference.
No. 20 Xu picked up two key victories in singles over the weekend to help the Cavaliers take down two teams that were previously undefeated in conference play to put UVA at the top of the ACC rankings. She won a pivotal victory on the No. 2 court on Friday against Duke's Irina Balus, battling through a tiebreaker to decide the first set before winning a tight 6-4 second set. She had also helped UVA win the doubles point against the Blue Devils. On Sunday, Xu was the deciding match in the Cavaliers' battle against No. 5 North Carolina. After dropping her first set against No. 26 Tatum Evans, she came back with a 6-3 win in the second to force the deciding third that she won 6-4 to clinch the victory for the Cavaliers.
This is her second career Player of the Week honor, with her first in April 2024.
