Will Daley and Charlotta Sandkulla garnered the first ACC Athlete of the Week honors of the season as announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference on Tuesday, March 31

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The Atlantic Coast Conference announced Tuesday (March 31) that Will Daley and Charlotta Sandkulla of the Virginia men's and women's track and field team earned ACC Athlete of the Week honors after strong performances at the Raleigh Relays.

Will Daley finished runner-up in the men's 5000-meters at the 2026 Raleigh Relays in a loaded field. Daley crossed the line in 13:36.80, just one second behind the leader Elkana Kipruto of Wichita State. He finished the race less than three-tenths of a second off his personal-best mark from last year. His time leads the ACC and ranks second nationally this season.

In the women's hammer throw, Charlotta Sandkulla threw a new personal best of 66.02m/216-7 to win the competition and break the school record. The freshman led the Cavalier 1-2-4 finish with Bree Lumpkin (62.01m/203-5, PB) and Aixa Corbacho (60.35m/198-0, PB). Sandkulla already owns the program record in the indoor weight throw and has now added the outdoor hammer throw to her name. With her mark, Sandkulla leads the ACC and ranks fourth in the NCAA this season.

The duo are the first Cavaliers to earn ACC weekly honors during the outdoor season.
