Evan Martinez joined the Virginia athletics staff in June of 2023 as the Assistant Director of Marketing and Digital Advertising. Martinez oversees marketing efforts for UVA’s men’s basketball and women’s lacrosse programs, supervision of digital ad spend, email marketing efforts, and oversight of the Virginia Sports app and radio advertising efforts.
Martinez came to UVA after nearly a two-year stint at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he served as the Assistant Director of Marketing and Fan Engagement. His responsibilities at UAB included marketing oversight for the men’s basketball, baseball and volleyball programs, management of in-game fan experience at football, digital and email marketing automation, and oversight of the marketing student internship program.
Prior to his UAB athletics tenure, Martinez served as the Account Executive for Cardinal Sports Properties at Lamar University in 2021. He was responsible for on-site sponsorship activations, managing client bases, and helped cultivate new growth of the Cardinal Sport Property sponsorship base.
Martinez earned his bachelor’s degree in marketing management from The University of New Mexico in December 2019. Before arriving at Lamar University, Martinez served his alma matter, The University of New Mexico as the Marketing Assistant during his undergrad from 2018-2020. His assigned sports with the Lobos included volleyball and men’s and women’s tennis. Martinez assisted with the creation of marketing plans to help increase fan attendance and engagement for all home contests, oversaw the Howl Zone tailgate, as well as spearheaded marketing street-team and on-campus efforts. A native of Chama, New Mexico, he currently resides with his dog Luna in Charlottesville.
