Malaysha (Lay) Ferguson joined the University of Virginia athletics department as an Assistant Director of Marketing in June 2025. She serves as the primary marketing contact for a variety of Olympic sports as well as Women’s Basketball. She’s responsible for executing in-game promotions and other fan engagement initiatives to increase attendance and revenue.
Prior to UVA, Ferguson spent three years at James Madison University as Assistant Director of Fan Engagement. She served as the primary marketing contact for Volleyball and Softball during her tenure as well as supporting fan experience initiatives for other Dukes Athletic events.
Before arriving at JMU, Ferguson previously spent time working in Ticket Sales with the Nashville Sounds. In 2021, Ferguson and her team contributed to the highest attendance in all of Minor League Baseball.
Ferguson is a graduate of Radford University where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Sport Administration in 2021. While at Radford, she worked in the athletic department as a marketing & ticket sales intern for two years driving sales and promoting the overall gameday experience.
A native of Franklin, Tennessee, Ferguson can be seen exploring around Charlottesville with her new Pitbull Niko and talking about the latest season of "Love Island".
